Heer Ranjha (retold)

World Premiere - Ankur Productions and Tramway
Present Heer Ranjha (Retold)
by Shan Khan

When Ranjha, a poor Muslim restaurant worker, is pulled out of the Clyde by a boatful of partygoers, he is confronted by Heer, the fast-living daughter of a Glasgow Curry King, and a Sikh. Love, intrigue and tragedy swiftly follow.

Shan Khan, Verity Bargate Award winner for his Edinburgh Festival hit The Office, has produced a gritty updating of a classic Asian folk-tale - the Romeo and Juliet of India and Pakistan, relocating it from the fields of the Punjab to the streets of Pollokshields and taking a sharp look at intercommunal relations.

Directed by Daljinder Singh, winner of the Arches Directing Award for 2008 and "an emerging star" (Joyce McMillan, The Scotsman), this fast-paced show features music from DJs Tigerstyle, renowned for their Bhangra / hip-hop fusion, design by Kai Fischer (Vanishing Point), and choreography by Paul Joseph (Kultyer Dance).
